What to offer guests as extras, and when it pays off
Extra services can increase your rental income and make a stay more enjoyable for guests. They don't have to mean big investments. What matters is choosing ones that suit your property, that you can provide reliably and that guests actually want.
Not every property needs to offer wellness or experience packages. Sometimes a few practical services are enough to save guests time and bring you extra income.
Services that make a stay easier
The easiest place to start is with what guests really need or appreciate.
- Groceries before arrival: food or drinks ready and waiting, so guests don’t have to look for a shop on the way.
- Early check-in or late check-out: for a surcharge, if the booking calendar and cleaning schedule allow it.
- Breakfast or dinner: for example, in cooperation with a local caterer.
- Getting ready for a special occasion: decorations, flowers or a small surprise for a birthday or anniversary.
- Wellness and massages: if the property has suitable facilities or an outside partner can provide them.
- Trips and activities nearby: recommendations or arranged experiences to suit guests’ interests.
Some services can be paid for, while others can simply be included in the stay as a pleasant bonus. Even a well-prepared local guide can improve the overall impression of the accommodation.
Make use of what Turiec offers
The advantage of Turiec is that it can appeal to different groups of visitors all year round.
Spring and summer suit hiking and cycling stays, family trips and long weekends in nature.
Autumn can appeal to couples, hikers and small groups looking for a quieter stay outside the main season.
Winter leaves room for ski stays, wellness weekends and holiday packages.
But the offer has to match the specific property. A cottage close to hiking trails has different options from a holiday home suited to family celebrations.
Packages don’t have to be complicated
A package doesn’t have to mean a big event or an expensive programme. It’s often enough to combine the accommodation with one or two extra services.
A romantic weekend, for example, could include a late check-out and a small snack waiting on arrival. A family stay could come with a practical guide to day trips and equipment for children. For groups, catering or getting the space ready for a celebration can be of interest.
What matters is that the package is easy to understand and has real value for the guest. Calling something a “wellness weekend” isn’t enough if you offer nothing beyond an ordinary stay.
When does an extra service pay off?
A higher price doesn’t automatically mean a higher profit.
If you charge extra for a service, you should also know what it costs to provide, how long it takes to prepare and what any outside supplier charges.
So before introducing a new service, ask yourself three questions:
- Will our guests really be interested in it?
- Can we provide it reliably and without complications?
- Will we see a reasonable benefit after costs?
We recommend starting with two or three services. Keep track of how many guests order them, what costs arise and whether it’s worth expanding the offer.
How to present extra services to guests
The offer should be available at the time of booking or in the pre-arrival information. That gives guests time to decide and you time to get everything ready.
For each service, state the price, the conditions and how far in advance it needs to be ordered.
A simple, clear offer works best. Guests shouldn’t feel you’re constantly trying to persuade them to spend more during their stay.
How we approach it
For each property, we consider its equipment, location and the type of guests it can attract. Based on that, we suggest extra services, seasonal offers and packages that also make financial sense.
In the Full Service + Growth package, we also work on developing and promoting the offer. Within the Turiec Properties group, we can work together on joint campaigns and use local partners where the opportunity arises.
